We were contacted by a concerned friend when two experienced cavers were becoming overdue from a dig site. Just as we had loaded the engineering kit on board and seconds before we were about to initiate a full team callout we received word the cavers had returned safely to the surface.

CALL OUT 435: Lamb Rescue, P8
The team were called out to extract a lamb in the bottom of the P8 Sinkhole.A local caving instructor noticed the lamb on the way back from his trip, it didn’t take long for a small team to assemble, descend the hole with our animal kit and recue the lamb back into the beautiful Derbyshire sunshine seemingly non the worse for its misadventure
CALL OUT 434: Shouts for Help – Tideswell
The team were called around 9:30 on the 8th of April, 2023, to reports of ‘Shouts for Help’ around an area of old mine shafts near Tideswell. The shouts were reported to the police by a local walking group, one of our controllers, who was nearby went to investigate, finding no apparent sign of persons in distress and another witness near the scene reporting that they thought it was some calling a dog the shout incident was passed back to the police for a possible surface search by Mountain Rescue A false call with good intent
Call Out 433: Giants Hole
Five cavers reported overdue, three being DCRO members. The call out lasted a total of nine minutes, before being cancelled when they surfaced.
CALL OUT 432: Overdue, Oxlow Cavern
Two novice cavers were reported overdue by another member of the party that had exited the cave earlier. The two cavers were quickly found at the second pitch, cold and becoming exhausted due to poor technique/sharing equipment slowing their ascent. Both cavers were hauled to the surface.
CALL OUT 431 Runner with Chest Pains
While running our annual fundraising Fell Race one of the entrants became unwell with chest pains, the Runner was treated by the team medical officer and handed over to the care of the Ambulance service
CALL OUT 430 Lamb Rescue near Eldon Quarry
The team were called into action to rescue a Lamb from a newly opened 8 metre deep hole on farmland near Eldon quarry. Our Gas metres indicated oxygen levels were too low to permit a team member to access the hole safely so in true MaGyver style a remotely operated noose system was created from our standard animal rescue kit to enable to lamp to be pulled to safety.
CALL OUT: 429 Peak Cavern/Titan
The team were called out to search for a Missing Cave Diver at 6pm. Two cave divers had started out on a Titan to Peak trip, the second Diver had technical issues at the start, abandoned the dive and exited back up Titan. When the first Diver failed to show at Peak Cavern the team were called and a well rehearsed search plan was quickly executed, quickly finding the missing Diver around 8pm, having suffered his own kit issues along the way sheltering in a dry area – unsure of the dry route to exit the cave from his current location – he was able to exit under his own steam along with our volunteers. 26 team members were involved, including a team diver.
CALL OUT 427 – Knotlow
We were contacted by the police to assist with an injured caver at the bottom of Knotlow Engine Shaft.Upon contacting the informant for further information, we were told there was now movement on the rope and they believed the ‘Casualty’ was now making there way out. 4 Team members who were close by attended, should any further assistance have been required, arriving in time to see them exit. Even though no physical assistance was required, calling 999, making us aware of the situation was absolutely the right thing to do.
CALL OUT 426 – Cracken Edge
The team assisted Kinder Mountain Rescue, EMAS and Derbyshire FRS with the extraction of a person from within a gritstone mine
