Some walkers reported that their dog had entered a cave and had not emerged. DCRO were called out to join Derbyshire Fire and Rescue personnel who were in attendance. The cave turned out to be Critchlow and the entrance was found to have become very constricted due to silting and the activities of foxes. There was no initial sign or sound of the missing dog. After about an hour’s unpleasant digging the dog could be heard somewhere ahead but another five hours work was required before it could be reached and rescued from a point about fifteen metres from the entrance.
